Mute, A Netflix Original Film From Filmmaker Duncan Jones, features Broken Mouth Blues by Nic Armstrong & The Thieves.
The much-anticipated project comes from a story Jones created. The film follows Leo (Skarsgård), a mute man searching for a missing person in the year 2052 in Berlin while dueling with two rogue villains played by Rudd and Theroux. Jones co-wrote the script with Michael Robert Johnson (Sherlock Holmes). Charles J.D. Schlissel serves as executive producer along with co-producers Henning Molfenter, Charlie Woebcken, Christoph Fisser of Studio Babelsberg.
“Mute is an encapsulation of everything I am fascinated by; noir, science fiction, and unique people in trouble because of who and what they are. I’m delighted to be able to return to Berlin for the shoot, a place I lived for a period of time growing up, and I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a film that is so close to my heart,” said Duncan Jones.
“Duncan Jones is such a dynamic directing force, and the team he has assembled in-front-of and behind-the-camera will...more

We are excited to announce that work has begun on Nic Armstrong & The Thieves' new album.
In December 2016, Nic was granted the ability to conduct business and travel overseas again - the final hurdle - ending a near decade fighting out of giant ball of red tape; a Kinks-ian, administrative limbo akin to the giant floating mirror in outer space that the baddies in Superman II were jamming in. The world is now an oyster again.
Returning to the UK in March 2017, Nic made a beeline to Toe Rag Studios in East London to begin work on the "difficult second album" with Liam Watson.
Nic says, 'I am super grateful to everyone who has lent their support over the years. Thankfully, we have navigated through some rather sticky patches and dodgy waters. Now it's time to kick on! Bob's your uncle."
With a clean slate, a sackful of catchy new tunes and a driving license to boot - keep your eyes peeled for upcoming album updates and Nic Armstrong & The Thieves concert listings.more

Set Pieces from Nic Armstrong & The Thieves' latest Pocketless Shirt EP makes Gigslutz' Tracks Of The Week.
"Tracks Of The Week 17.02.14
Hailing from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Nic Armstrong now resides in Austin, TX, composing his eclectic range of alternative rock and roll. Currently finalising the arrangements of five years’ worth of compositions, a taster of the first bit of new material for quite some time has now surfaced. ‘Set Pieces’ is a hook-laden offering with a retro vibe. Clearly influenced by his newfound homeland, Armstrong’s latest track is filled with a sunny garage-rock vibe, but stays true to his roots with a Beatles-esque romanticism and intricate, Brit-Pop reminiscent riffs. Exuding a dedicated energy and soulfully smooth vocals (which still retain a vague Northern twang, despite Armstrong’s time in the States), ‘Set Pieces’ is a catchy tune that will leave you wanting more.
So, if you have been missing Armstrong’s dulcet tones for the last five years, fear not – he is back to caress your eardrums, along with his...more

"Album reviews: Nic Armstrong & The Thieves: A British transplant now thriving in Austin
In the mid-2000′s Nic Armstrong traveled to Austin from his English homeland and never left. We should be glad he stayed. Whether he purposefully decided to make Austin his home or whether the city herself just wouldn’t let go of him is unknown, but however it happened, it worked out in our favor. In November he put out a new EP, Pocketless Shirt, and the tunes are quite swell. The sounds and influences on the EP are varied – on one hand I hear 1960′s-style British pop and on the other hand I hear West Coast-inspired summery fuzz-laden rock. The EP has six songs on it, and each one showcases Nic and his band in an interesting fashion.
The EP opens up with a song called “Set Pieces.” A mix of electric and acoustic guitar sounds, driving drum beats, and Beatles-esque vocals sets the tone for the rest of the album: sunny and bright, bubblegum without being cheesy or too light, and full of fantastic fuzzy guitars and slightly dramatic little twists and turns in the vocals that...more
Yay! EP is due = party is planned!
The past few years we have been going quasi-bonkers getting all the backbones straightened, ECT to sketchbooks, moths-to-wallets, metaphors to abstractions, smashing all the mirrors of outer space.
This is a celebration of the tip of the iceberg of new music that has come to caress and form like a blanket around your soul in coming days.
We have some awesome bands playing this FREE, early event at The Blackheart on Rainey St in Austin, TX. It's going to be a cracking night so bring your friends!

"Tripped-out-whiskey-guzzling-one-man-band, Nic Armstrong blew into our studio with a mile of music under his bowler hat. He rocked the session for over an hour then we all went out to get mauled on drink! Proper bastard, he is." - Barking Irons
Independent fashion house and brand, Barking Irons, invited Nic to perform at their fantastically furnished headquarters located in New York City's The Bowery.

What's the best part about being a musician? Catching a sniff of a classy tune and the ensuing hunt is one of my most favorite things (as a musician).
Describe your personal style. The best-dressed Englishman in Austin. Clean. Get the shoes right and you'll have good lovemaking.
Who are your style icons? Famous alcoholics, Nilsson album covers, Chuck Berry, Ken Currie, flotsam and jetsam, Cole Porter songs, Cops, Boy George, Hieronymus Bosch, beaches.
What do you like about the general style in Austin? The sea of pretty faces. The general kookery. Art scene. Music scene.
What is your most prized style possession? Taxidermied trophys with X-ed out eyes. Tight euro-style underpants. I go nuts for stockings.
Where do you shop? Online, in person and in secret. Strike a balance between local and multi-national. Odd, one off stores, thrift, vintage, hand-me-downs. I tend to avoid the logos on clothes crew.
What was the worst trend that you...more
Nic Armstrong plays music that is easily recognizable. Listen to his first two albums and you will hear music that evokes the best elements of the British Invasion yet, these albums (The first as Nic Armstrong and the Thieves and the second as IV Thieves) don’t feel like some empty homage. Instead, the music he produces is something very much alive, vibrant, and of this century. Originally from England, Armstrong now resides in Austin where we seem to have had the good luck to catch up with him between recording sessions for his new album.
FPH – A lot of your music is grounded in the style from the 60s British Invasion. Why do you think that sound resonates so well even after all these years.
Armstrong – First off, just got out of a recording session, I’m delirious and muffled with a head cold and my amp (the bastard) fried as soon as I plugged it in. Dirty frying nerves and filthy cash all in one go. Perfect.
So, will the sound of the “Golden Age”...more
