Hailing from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the UK - now based in Austin, Texas - Nic Armstrong & The Thieves play a rock ’n roll show influenced by blues, 1950's eclectic Tin Pan Alley, outsider art and melodies that turn on a psychological sixpence. With voice unique that "sits somewhere between the brooding rasp of Eric Burdon or the primal Hamburg scream of John Lennon, and a keen ear for a jaw droppingly catchy tune", Nic performs from street corner to stadia with equal exuberance.
The band has toured internationally across North America, UK and Europe - including opening for icons Paul Weller, Oasis and The Pretenders; with performances at festivals including Coachella, Austin City Limits, Noise and Confusion.
The music has garnered acclaim from national media outlets such as Rolling Stone, NPR, BBC, NME, The Late Late Show - and has featured in full-length films, shorts, computer games and a Super Bowl commercial. Most recent release - Negative Slant EP - follows on from Pocketless Shirt, Broken Mouth Blues and debut album, The Greatest White Liar. In 2018, Broken Mouth Blues was featured in Mute - Duncan Jones’ full length feature for Netflix; and Natural Flair was released in New West Records 20th Anniversary Box Set.
With new projects in the works, Nic has returned to the legendary Toe Rag Studios in London to begin recording a new album.
